On 26 June 2024, Belgian students explored the play area around Grand-Hornu. After conceptualising its design, they visualised it in three dimensions. They then thought about how it could be used by children, assessing how certain elements could be improved or added to comply with European safety standards for play areas.
The installation of a play area in the gardens of Grand-Hornu aims to provide a recreational space specifically designed for children. This initiative meets a need for entertainment and development for the youngest visitors to the site.

The play area is designed to be a place where children can play, exercise and have fun in complete safety. It offers a range of equipment and structures adapted to different ages and abilities, encouraging free play and exploration on the Grand-Hornu site.
